"Sérendipité" is French for finding something good without looking for it and refers to happy coincidences, such as an unexpected discovery or a positive turn of events. The large canvas, consisting of more than ten layers, reflects the depth and complexity of unexpected discoveries in life.
About the artist
Merel Meijer (1998) paints in her studio on the Veluwe under the pseudonym SAMSOM (abbreviation of her first names Sara Anna Merel).
Often in the signature colours blue & orange, Merel's paintings are built up from multiple layers of acrylic paint, just long enough for the canvas to 'feel' finished to her. In addition to acrylic paint, she also uses different materials to create more depth. This process can take weeks but sometimes months. These layers create new patterns and colours, which gives her art a lot of detail and layering, each painting is unique.
"My paintings symbolize the endless possibilities that come from embracing change. For me, they serve as a reminder that life, like art, is made richer and deeper by seeing the beauty in change."
