"Sérendipité" is French for finding something good without looking for it and refers to happy coincidences, such as an unexpected discovery or a positive turn of events. The large canvas, composed of more than ten layers, reflects the depth and complexity of life's unexpected discoveries.
About the artist
Merel Meijer (1998) paints in her studio on the Veluwe.
Often in her signature colors of blue and orange, Merel's paintings are constructed from multiple layers of acrylic paint, layered for a period long enough for the canvas to feel "complete." Besides acrylic paint, she also uses various materials to create depth. This process can take weeks, sometimes even months. These layers continually create new patterns and colors, giving her art a rich detail and richness of detail; each painting is unique.
My paintings symbolize the endless possibilities that arise from embracing change. For me, they serve as a reminder that life, like art, becomes richer and deeper by seeing the beauty in change.
