About artist Annejole Jacobs - de Jongh

Jole (Annejole Jacobs – de Jongh, 1964) creates modern mixed-media portraits ‘with a story’. These are both independent works and commissioned pieces for private individuals and companies. Using all sorts of digital images, photos and texts, she creates designs and then applies the portraits to canvas using a mix of print and painting. The backgrounds of the paintings are built up from different layers of digital images, texts and scanned originals that Jole collects about the subject to be portrayed. The images she uses are derived from art, history, music, literature or contemporary times, among others.
“In my work, I am inspired by my surroundings, nature, what goes on in people’s minds, by events in the news, in newspapers and on social media, and by different cultures, countries and cities.”
In 2019, Jole won the TV program 'Sterren op het doek' on NPO 2 with a portrait of TV presenter Matthijs van Nieuwkerk.
