About artist Annejole Jacobs - de Jongh
Jole (Annejole Jacobs-de Jongh, 1964) creates modern mixed-media portraits "with a story." She works both as a freelance artist and on commission for both individuals and businesses. Using a variety of digital images, photos, and texts, she creates designs and then transfers the portraits to canvas, combining print and painting. The backgrounds of the paintings are constructed from layers of digital images, texts, and scanned originals that Jole collects about the subject. The images she uses originate from art, history, music, literature, and contemporary art.
In my work, I am inspired by the environment around me, nature, what people are experiencing, by events in the news, in newspapers and on social media, and by different cultures, countries, and cities.
In 2019, Jole won the TV program 'Sterren op het doek' from NPO 2 with a portrait of TV presenter Matthijs van Nieuwkerk.
